Pokémon inspired baking

#35 & #36: Clefairy and Clefable!

Super rare cheesecakes…

We’re back again with our next recipe in the same week to make up for our unexpected absence last week! This week we’re trying something different and making desserts instead of cakes and biscuits; it’s Clefairy & Clefable strawberry cheesecake! We thought these awesome pink mons had to be strawberry flavoured, and since they’re big fans of the moon (which we all know is made of cheese) we decided to make cheesecake, with strawberry chunks for Clefairy & strawberry chunks + white chocolate chips (they look a bit like little moons!) for Clefable. This is a pretty quick & easy recipe which doesn’t require any baking, you really just mix it all together then put it in the fridge overnight to set (getting it to set can be a little tricky though). We made a small cheesecake for Clefairy (7 1/2″ tin) and a larger one for Clefable (9″ tin) but this was still a lot of cheesecake so unless you have a lot of people to feed we suggest you don’t make both at once!

Anyway, here’s the recipe!

#29, #30, #31, #32, #33 & #34: Nidoran♀, Nidorina, Nidoqueen, Nidoran♂, Nidorino & Nidoking!

Gender Equality Cupcakes

Gender Stereotype Defying Cupcakes

Ahem. Well that title was a mouthful. Yep, this week we attempted to bake six Pokémon all at once. As you can imagine, it took a while (but not as long as you’d think!) and writing it up also took a while, which is why this post is late (sorry!). We felt it was logical to do both male and female Nidoran lines all in one recipe because essentially they’re the all the same family, they just differ by gender. Did anyone else find it weird that in the first Pokémon game only Nidoran had a gender? And subsequently when genders and breeding were introduced for all Pokémon, that Nidoking and Nidoqueen can’t breed? Japan, you are cray-cray…Anyways, the recipe is for fruit & chocolate cupcakes, specifically blackberry & milk chocolate for the female line and raspberry & white chocolate for the male line (specifics for each mon detailed below). Yup, pink for boys and blue for girls, because gender norms are silly, right? Now, let’s make lots and lots of cupcakes!

#27 & #28: Sandshrew & Sandslash!

The waffle iron's always in the shop...Hello reader! We hope you’ve abandoned your New Year’s resolutions for a healthy diet by now so that you can fully enjoy our Pokémon recipes ;) This week we’re bringing you a bit of a specialist recipe in that you’ll need a waffle iron for it; we’re making Sandshrew & Sandslash waffles! We thought the pattern of Sandshrew’s skin/hide/whateveryoucallit looks a bit like a waffle, and since Bakémon Master Siobhán recently acquired a waffle iron we decided to roll with that idea and evolve the Sandshrew waffles to Sandslash waffles by piping in chocolate ganache spikes. Yum. If you don’t have a waffle iron we suppose you could buy waffles in the shop but they definitely won’t be as nice! It doesn’t take too long anyway, and is a bit like making pancakes so it’s relatively simple. Makes both an indulgent breakfast or an ideal dessert.

Waffles away!

#25 & #26: Pikachu and Raichu!

Nom nom lemon/orange squares! We’re finally back from our Christmas bake-cation and ready to continue supplying the world with tasty Pokémon inspired treats. We’re picking up where we left off numerically, and what better way to start the New Year with a spark than with the most iconic Pokémon; Pikachu and Raichu! Pikachu has long been the face of Nintendo and has already been enshrined in everything from cupcakes to toothbrush holders, so we wanted to do something a little different to represent the electric mouse duo. We felt their electric type was best captured by tangy citrus fruits, so we made lemon bars for Pikachu and lemon & orange bars for Raichu. It’s a pretty straightforward recipe and the end results are very tasty so you have no excuse not to try it (well unless you’re weird and don’t like lemons…)! These are traybakes so we made 2 trays, one for Pikachu and one for Raichu, if you don’t think you’ll need that many lemon/orange bars you may opt to just make one or to find smaller trays (standard is 9″ by 13″). When finished we iced the bars with Pikachu & Raichu coloured lightning bolts in lemon glacé icing; if you’re a stickler for having your Pokémon inspired treats Look like the ‘mon then feel free to ice on a Pikachu or Raichu instead but this will take a long time and a lot of patience, especially to do ones that small! Be creative though, we like that.

Anyways, Pikachu, Raichu- I choose you!

Christmas Special! #122: Mr Mime!

MimeCookie

Happy Christmas from Mr Mime!

Festive greetings Bakémon trainers! As we are so close to Christmas we decided to do yet another very special recipe to suit the season that’s in it. A standard Christmas treat for many years has been gingerbread men, decorated however one pleases. However us Bakémon masters aren’t huge fans of gingerbread so we decided to use our own Christmas cookie recipe to make Christmas Mr Mimes! Mr Mime was the obvious Pokémon choice because he’s humanoid shaped and we honestly have no other idea what baked good he could be :P These cookies are made with treacle & all the Christmas spices you can think of and are totally delicious; Bakémon master Siobhán has been making variations of this recipe (& flooding our apartment with cookies in the process ;) ) since the start of December so we have it perfected! The Mr Mimes are decorated using lemon flavoured glacé icing which nicely compliments the Christmassy flavours & gives it an extra touch of sweetness. Be warned however that both the cutting out & icing of your mimes can be quite time consuming, we think it’s worth it though!

Ready? Let’s go!

#23 & #24: Ekans and Arbok!

Ssssnaaaakessss

Doughy & delicious

Welcome back Bakétrainers! Apologies for our slightly delayed recipe this week, both us Bakémon masters have been very busy with college deadlines and haven’t had much time to write up Pokérecipes. Never fear though! The baking will of course go on, and this week we present to you Ekans and Arbok slezterp (pretzels…coz you know…Ekans & Arbok is backwards for Snake & Kobra…) We wanted something both snakey and different to represent these two, and seeing as making something poisonous wasn’t really an option we decided to go with pretzels. We made classic salty pretzels for Ekans and evolved to cinnamon & sugar Arboks using, get this, purple sugar! They were all really really tasty and basically all disappeared overnight in our apartment. Which is probably just as well because pretzels don’t really keep for longer than a day or two, so if you don’t have as many mouths to feed as we do we strongly suggest reducing this recipe to your needs! If you’ve never made pretzels before  (we hadn’t!) then you’re in for a treat!
