Ahem. Well that title was a mouthful. Yep, this week we attempted to bake six Pokémon all at once. As you can imagine, it took a while (but not as long as you’d think!) and writing it up also took a while, which is why this post is late (sorry!). We felt it was logical to do both male and female Nidoran lines all in one recipe because essentially they’re the all the same family, they just differ by gender. Did anyone else find it weird that in the first Pokémon game only Nidoran had a gender? And subsequently when genders and breeding were introduced for all Pokémon, that Nidoking and Nidoqueen can’t breed? Japan, you are cray-cray…Anyways, the recipe is for fruit & chocolate cupcakes, specifically blackberry & milk chocolate for the female line and raspberry & white chocolate for the male line (specifics for each mon detailed below). Yup, pink for boys and blue for girls, because gender norms are silly, right? Now, let’s make lots and lots of cupcakes!
Hello valued followers and welcome intrepid newbies! In this post we bring you the final addition to the starter families; Squirtle, Wartortle & Blastoise. It will be our last cupcake recipe for a while as we intend to branch out into bolder, exciting & new Bakémon territory- but never fear these cupcakes are totally delicious and totally fun! It’s also our first recipe involving chocolate, so it’s basically guaranteed to be awesome 😉 So what are we making? We felt blue turtles were best captured as blueberry & chocolate chip cupcakes with different chocolate shells on top. Squirtle begins as blueberry & white chocolate chips with a white chocolate shell, becoming Wartortle with the addition of milk chocolate chips & a milk chocolate shell, finally evolving to Blastoise by adding dark chocolate chips & a dark chocolate shell (& sweetie cannons!). There’s nearly a kilo of chocolate in this recipe it’s that chocolicious, and if you follow our instructions you’ll end up with some pretty amazing looking turtles! So what are you waiting for, let’s begin!
Welcome back baking trainers and Pokémon bakers! We hope you enjoyed our first recipe, and have recovered from the experience of lime, mint & rum cupcakes. This time we’ll be bringing you a slightly more normal, but just as fun, recipe to make everyone’s favourite fire starter family (Charmander also happens to be both Nicole & Siobhán’s favourite starter, so they’re extra tasty cakes 😉 ) Charmander will be presented with a little spice as cinnamon & honey mini cupcakes, getting hotter with the addition of cloves, nutmeg and ginger for Charmeleon fairy cakes and with a final fire blast shot of whiskey for large Charizard cupcakes. These cupcakes are seriously yummy and seriously pretty when iced (see our instructions below), we whole heartedly recommend everyone try them! We used honey in the buttercream icing to great success- seriously, honey icing is totally delicious and we’re both shocked that we’d never heard of it before. You need to taste it, and so, here’s the recipe:
Welcome to our very first Pokémon baking experiment. With this recipe we’ve tried to take inspiration from the very first 3 Pokémon and much loved starter family; Bulbasaur, Ivysaur & Venusaur. Starting with mini lime cupcakes representing Bulbasaur, we evolve to lime & mint cupcakes for Ivysaur and again to large lime, mint & rum cupcakes for Venusaur. Yes, this is an odd combination of flavours for cupcakes but we feel they capture the spirit of the Bulbafamily and if you get the proportions right they’re very tasty (read: we may have added too much rum in our batch, we have adjusted the recipe accordingly below 😉 )
