Nom nom lemon/orange squares!We’re finally back from our Christmas bake-cation and ready to continue supplying the world with tasty Pokémon inspired treats. We’re picking up where we left off numerically, and what better way to start the New Year with a spark than with the most iconic Pokémon; Pikachu and Raichu! Pikachu has long been the face of Nintendo and has already been enshrined in everything from cupcakes to toothbrush holders, so we wanted to do something a little different to represent the electric mouse duo. We felt their electric type was best captured by tangy citrus fruits, so we made lemon bars for Pikachu and lemon & orange bars for Raichu. It’s a pretty straightforward recipe and the end results are very tasty so you have no excuse not to try it (well unless you’re weird and don’t like lemons…)! These are traybakes so we made 2 trays, one for Pikachu and one for Raichu, if you don’t think you’ll need that many lemon/orange bars you may opt to just make one or to find smaller trays (standard is 9″ by 13″). When finished we iced the bars with Pikachu & Raichu coloured lightning bolts in lemon glacé icing; if you’re a stickler for having your Pokémon inspired treats Look like the ‘mon then feel free to ice on a Pikachu or Raichu instead but this will take a long time and a lot of patience, especially to do ones that small! Be creative though, we like that.

Sugary cute!

Greetings beloved fans & a special welcome to everyone who has discovered us via Pokémemes! Our internet fame is slowly mounting and we are doing our very best to satisfy your hunger for Pokémon themed recipes. This week we encounter the first Pokéfamily with only two members; Rattata and Raticate. Both of whom every trainer is familiar with as they are the most widely found ‘mon about Kanto & Johto, and love them (we’re looking at you, Joey) or hate them they’re iconic members of the Pokémon world. To make edible versions of these infamous rodents we decided to follow a traditional English recipe for ‘sugar mice’. Sugar mice are cute, edible mouse shaped blobs of sugar traditionally found in children’s stockings at Christmas. Sugar Rattatas & Raticates are cute, edible rat shaped blobs of sugar traditionally found in the tall grass (and you know, everywhere else too). On the sugar note- let us warn you in advance these are extremely sweet. They are essentially just balls of icing and have only two main ingredients; icing sugar and egg white. We flavoured our Rattatas with peppermint & our Raticates with chocolate but the end result is sugary in both cases. You have been warned.

Uh, I think my dessert is grinning at me…

Relax, you haven’t unknowingly travelled in time and missed Pokémons #10-#91; we’ve taken a bit of a jump from our usual numerical order to bring you a very special Halloween recipe for everyone’s favourite Ghost Pokémon, Gastly, Haunter & Gengar! Ghosts are dark and ethereal, so we felt an airy, chocolatey mousse would best capture their otherworldly aura. At the very least, if you make the recipe to our proportions you will be haunted by the chickens that may have been from all the eggs you’ll go through! Also, yes, technically chocolate mousse does not require one to bake per se, but it’s a yummy dessert so it counts. We decided to try three different flavours of mousse for the three ghosts; Mars Bar for Gastly, chocolate orange for Haunter and dark chocolate for Gengar (’cause he’s the darkest, duh). We then decorated them by making their faces in solid chocolate because it looks damn awesome. This was both our first experience making mousse, and we were met with varying levels of success. Chocolate and eggs; how hard can it be right? Well, we make mistakes so you don’t have to 😛 Let’s get started!
